A new report out yesterday has highlighted the barriers to independent living for young people with learning disabilities. The research warns that the housing requirement of young people are often overlooked or missed off care assessments altogether. The report shows that thinking ahead to get housing considerations through the community care assessment gate is essential and should be pushed at the transition planning review when students are 13-years-old. The report also argued that care providers and local authorities must make sure their employees have adequate training and the right information so housing needs - both current and in the future - are reviewed regularly and as early as possible.
